Hi, I'm Ava.
We bought a tired 1961 post-and-beam in the Los Angeles canyons because of the light — long low afternoon sun pouring through clerestory windows onto walls that hadn't been loved in decades. I've spent the years since bringing it back: warm walnut, terracotta, olive, and the kind of soft globe lighting the house was clearly built for.
I write about living in a mid-century home without turning it into a museum — keeping the good bones, mixing real vintage with a few well-chosen new pieces, and lighting rooms the way the original architects intended, with warmth and a low golden glow. Everything here is our actual house, lit the way it really looks at five o'clock.
No sponsored posts dressed up as advice. Just what worked in our canyon house, what didn't, and the warm light that ties it all together.
